Cosplay & Weapons Policy

Anime Blast Chattanooga wants to create a safe environment for all attendees, while also allowing costumers to show off their hard work and craftsmanship. Please review this page and ensure that everything you bring to the convention follows Anime Blast Chattanooga guidelines.

Failure to adhere to this policy can result in immediate expulsion from the convention.

Forbidden Costumes & Props

Items which are strictly prohibited (no questions asked) include :

  1. Live Steel– This includes swords, knives, shurikens, bayonets, or any other metal objects which have an edge.
  2. Guns – This is anything that shoots a projectile or could be enabled to shoot a projectile, including air guns, airsoft weapons, crossbows, replicas of actual guns, etc.
  3. Wheels – This is anything that rolls or used to roll, including skates (be they inline or box), skateboards, scooters, bicycles, etc.   Even if you can lock the wheels, they are still not permitted.

Restricted Props & Costumes

Items which are permitted with certain limitations include:

  1. Easily identifiable toy plastic guns
  2. Wooden bokken, staffs, or walking sticks
  3. Fake weapons made from cardboard, Styrofoam, rubber, or other craft materials
  4. Large props, regardless of construction
  5. Large costumes

Misusing a prop, or engaging in horseplay by swinging it around, sparring, etc., is the fastest way to lose the privilege of carrying it at all.

All props are subject to review by the convention staff. You may be asked by Anime Blast Chattanooga staff to remove your prop.  If this happens, you must not only cease wearing it, but also remove it from the convention area immediately.

Failure to adhere to this policy can result in immediate expulsion from the convention.  Remember, if you have any doubt, you can always contact us before the con or check with security staff at the convention.

Dealers Room Weapons

If you purchase a weapon in the Dealers Room, please take it immediately to your room or car for storage. Do not carry it around with you.

  1. Nerf guns.. Can we brings Nerf guns that have been painted and sealed at the barrel with hot glue?

    • This seems like it’d be fine, but if you have any questions stop by our registration/info desk and our security staff will look over the item. They
may need to peace tie the weapon but I’d think no more then that.

  2. What about a large wooden sword? It’s 48″ tall and weighs about 4lb. It’s sanded to a point, but not a fine one. In fact, I hit my head pretty hard on the edge of it the other day (oddly enough I was sewing when it happened. >>;; ) and it didn’t leave a mark or a bruise. Do you think this would be acceptable?

    • I’ll check with our security staff though if in doubt you can always bring it to the con and a security member will look it over and perhaps peace tie it if it’s ok.

  3. Well safety and precaution must be the first step for any platform… Cosplaying itself is an special art which have many options to enjoy with…Thanks for sharing the cosplay and weapons policy with us…

  4. Went as Ezio from assassin’s creed last year, can’t wait for this year, gonna be Jack of Blades from Fable 😀

  5. One of the days I plan on going as Deadpool and i am wanting to make his twin swords out of pvc (melting the pvc into a sheet for the “blade”) would this be acceptable?

  6. would it be acceptable to bring a baseball bat as a weapon prop? I may be cosplaying Yata Misaki from K project and i already can’t bring a skateboard, so i was wondering

    • If it’s a plastic baseball bat yes; however, I think the venue security alone might worry if you have a real metal baseball bat.
